Process Steps

Step 1
|
The importer wishing to import motor vehicles from a non-SACU country needs to apply for an import permit as per the requirement of the Import Control Order of 1976. The application form is found on the Ministry of Finance website.

Step 2
|
The importer then declares the motor vehicle to Customs (ERA) and the port of entry/border.
|

| Step 3 |
Within two (2) days of entry the importer is expected to report the arrival of the motor vehicle at SRA Manzini Regional Office located in Matsapha, where the transit note will be validated and a manifest will be generated. |

| Step 4 |
The importer then has as to pay customs duties on the motor vehicle, which may vary form 0-40% depending on the cost insurance and fright of the motor vehicle. The importer has to further pay 15% value added tax, which are both based on the value of the motor vehicle.

| Step 5 |
The Importer has to take the car to Matsapha weighbridge for weighing and to test for roadworthiness acquire the weighbridge and the roadworthiness certificates.

| Step 6 |
The importer has to apply for a SARPPCO clearance certificate, which includes taking the motor vehicle to a local police station for inspection. Once the motor vehicle has been inspected, it is taken through the I247 (which is a system used to check if the car was stolen anywhere in the world) .

| Step 7 |
If the motor vehicle clears through the I247, then the importer is issued a RSP200 form which is a certificate that will be used to register the motor vehicle. |

| Step 8 |
The motor vehicle is then taken to the revenue offices to be registered by the importer, who will then receive a registration book (also currently known as the blue book). |
